At the Southport Food & Drink Festival there was a host of cooking demonstrations featuring different cuisines. In the afternoon the trainees from Southport Catering College were giving demonstrations on making deserts. Three trainees were in competition to get the most votes for their desert from the audience in a Ready Steady Cook style.

Sue hosted the 60th Reith Lecture at St George’s Hall. Guest speaker was Professor Jonathan Spence who gave a lecture on China. Amongst the audience in the refurbished small concert room was Brian Wong, one of the leaders of Liverpool’s Chinese community and a Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside.
Mark was one of the guests at the BBC’s Reith Lecture in St George’s Hall where he listed to an enthralling lecture about China by Professor Jonathan Spence from New York’s Yale University.
The audience at the cookery demonstration at the Southport Food & Drink Festival vote for their favourite deserts buy holding up either Red Tomatoes or Green Peppers in a Ready Steady Cook style. They were voting after seeing students from Southport Catering College making a variety of desserts. After the vote people were invited to taste the food to see if it tasted as good as it looked.
